Choose a base around the journey
Location is useful only in relation to the trips you intend to make. Compare the actual arrival and departure arrangements.
Accommodation near a famous landscape can still involve very different arrival arrangements and daily journeys. Choose a base by connecting its exact location with the itinerary you intend to follow. A name containing Sesriem or Sossusvlei is useful context, but it does not describe every practical detail of the stay.
Put the location first
Check the property’s own location information and the instructions for reaching it. If a tour includes pickup, confirm that the accommodation is within the provider’s actual pickup arrangement. If you are arranging your own transport, ask about the arrival route and the current instructions that apply to your vehicle and booking.
Separate the place you sleep from the places you visit. An attractive room photograph cannot tell you how a day at the dunes is organized. Equally, a photograph of the dunes should not be read as the view from a particular property unless the property says so clearly.
Compare the details you will use
Make a short list of the facilities and arrangements that matter to your party. The useful question is whether they are available for your actual dates and booking. Confirm meals, check-in arrangements, any transport included and the practical requirements of the accommodation type you are considering.

Connect the whole itinerary
Think about the previous and following parts of your journey as well as the main desert outing. A convenient base for one departure may require different arrangements for the next leg. Ask how luggage, onward transport and an early or late arrival will be handled where those details affect the plan.
